Lehigh Valley Story Slam debuted in Bethlehem, PA in May of 2015. Dennis Boyne and Jim Breslin first met while performing at Scranton Story Slam. Dennis eventually visited West Chester Story Slam and mentioned his interest in starting a Story Slam in the Lehigh Valley. They soon found themselves having lunch at McCarthy’s Red Stag Pub and Whiskey Bar, and setting up dates for the debut season.
Dennis Boyne is a seasoned storyteller, a winner of the Scranton Story Slam, and a member of the imrov group Improvolution in New York. He is the past artistic director of Philemon Productions in New Jersey and was part owner and Creative Consultant for New Jersey Public Theater in Cranford, NJ. He has acted, produced or directed over seventy productions. He won the New York Daily News Drama Critic Award, New Jersey Edition for his portrayal of Marat in the play Marat/Sade. Dennis lives with his wife Nancy in Easton and Elk Mountain.
Jim Breslin is the founder of the West Chester Story Slam, which debuted in 2010. Since the first event, over 550 stories have been told to live audiences in local bars. Stories are posted on the West Chester Story Slam YouTube channel and selected stories are featured on the monthly West Chester Story Slam podcast. Jim also founded Delco Story Slam and co-founded Lancaster Story Slam. He is the author of Shoplandia, a novel inspired by his 17 years at QVC. Check out JimBreslin.com.
Larry Geiger, creative director, is an artist, graphic designer, book cover designer, and a self-described “font geek.” He developed his business, technology and marketing chops over 20 years as a print and digital creative. Dr. Catherine Moore is a Moravian Academy Upper School English Teacher. In addition to holding a Ph.D. in English Literature, Dr. Moore has a Master’s degree in Theatre, and a Master of Studies postgraduate degree in Research Methods in English Literature. and D.Phil. coursework from the University of Oxford. Dr. Moore, a.k.a. the “Story Doctor” is a board member with the Lehigh Valley Storytelling Guild. Catherine will be in charge of the judging at our story slams as well as advising us in other areas.
Chris Singleheart is a freelance writer and speaker. She is currently working on her first book, “So, What’s He Like?” She lives a life of meaningful action by promoting human welfare and empowering others. Chris has done extensive volunteer work with numerous organizations and has made it her mission to further the advancement of those less fortunate.
